Dorothy Friez

Dorothy Friez, 83, Bismarck, passed away May 3, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Century Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Steier and Rev. Dr. Gordon Stork officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Dorothy was born to Fred and Lydia Michaelsohn in Venturia, ND, on January 2, 1930. She grew up on a farm close to Danzig, ND, and attended a country school near there. She moved to Bismarck after graduating from high school and worked at the ND Tax Department until she married Leo Friez in June of 1959. Leo and Dorothy farmed near McLaughlin, SD, until they retired and moved to Bismarck in 2005. They raised three daughters. Dorothy was a perfect farm housewife. She was very talented at sewing, cooking, baking, etc. She was very industrious and creative in providing for her family with gardening, canning, raising chickens, and sewing. She was very involved in the church and ministry activities related to the church. One of her highest priorities was being a good mom and raising her three daughters. She loved to entertain in her home and many people would vouch her cooking was the best! Later she did much quilting and crafts which all her family benefited from. Her grandchildren will remember her for her love, her care, for playing with them, and for making wonderful things for them. Dorothy didn't complain and was very organized. Her sweet personality was known by all that came in touch with her. She is survived by her husband, Leo Friez; three daughters, Sandra Randy Bieber, Cindy Brent Matz, and Sheila Mel Harms; nine grandchildren, Chris Breeun Bieber, Tim Bieber, Rebecca Andrew Veer, Rachel Harms, Elizabeth Harms, Esther Harms, Cherise Matz, Nathan Matz, and Joshua Matz; one great-grandson, Graysen Bieber; one sister, Francine Rutschke; and one brother, Victor Michaelsohn. She was preceded in death by her mother; father; brother, Allen; and sister, Ruth. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Crystal Springs Baptist Camp or the Gideon's International.
