Dorothy Sande

Dorothy Sande, 83, passed away on July 12, 2007, at St. Alexius Medical Center following complications from surgery. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 16, at the United Church of Christ, Bismarck, with the Rev. Heather Bodwell officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 1-7 PM on Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Dorothy was born on February 2, 1924, in Williston, ND, the daughter of Ross and Doris Jeffrey. She attended schools in Williston, graduating from Williston High School in 1942. She later received her nursing diploma from Mercy Hospital in Williston and was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps during WWII. Dorothy married Ervin Sande on January 2, 1947, in Williston where they resided until moving to Minot, ND, in 1956. In 1965 they moved to Bismarck. During the Korean conflict they were stationed at Fort Rucker, AL, and during the Cuban Missile Crisis at Camp McCoy, WI. Dorothy was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a fine pianist. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline's for many years. Dorothy was a true sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching from the stands as her children and grandchildren participated in sports and music. Her favorite teams were the Bismarck Demons, NDSU Bison, New York Yankees, and the Green Bay Packers. She bowled for many years with the Bismarck Women's Bowling Association. The past few years Dorothy was limited to watching games on television or listening on the radio. Dorothy will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Mike Thurlby, Bismarck, and Susan Parson, Bismarck; two sons, Jim Sue, Bismarck and Dave Eileen, Boise, ID; ten grandchildren, Troy and Megan Thurlby, Bismarck, Heidi Thurlby, Fargo, Erin Sande, Bismarck, Jeff Sande, Grand Forks, Marissa and Adam Sande, Boise, ID, Kayla Sande, Salt Lake City, UT, and Ross and Rylie Parson, Bismarck; one great-grandchild, Olivia Sande, Bismarck; one brother, Robert Bernice Jeffrey, Williston; and two sisters-in-law, Lola Harold Hoehn and Lois Sande, Williston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
