Elenore Gehring

Elenore A. Gehring, 89, passed away April 4, 2008, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30AM Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Elenore was born July 31, 1918 on her family's farm near the Goose River in Norway Township, Trail County, ND, the daughter of John J. and Borghild Faa Overmoen. She grew up and attended schools in Hillsboro, ND, graduating from Hillsboro High School. She went on to attend Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1948. Elenore was an R.N. at Bismarck Hospital for 30 years, retiring as the Assistant Director of Nursing Services. She had lived in the same home since she first moved to Bismarck 60 years ago, until moving to Valley View Heights in 2007. Elenore married Oscar Gehring on July 24, 1970 at First United Methodist Church in Bismarck. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow into adulthood. Company was always welcome in Elenore's home, whether they were family or friends. For 23 years, Oscar and Elenore spent their winters in Phoenix, AZ. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and attending family reunions in the U.S. and Canada. She also enjoyed traveling, and in 2002 she visited Norway with her family to see the birth place of her parents and meet her Norwegian relatives. Elenore is survived by her husband, Oscar; four step-daughters and sons-in-law, Carma Larry Booth of Yuma, Arizona, Marion Oliver Cobb of Denman Island, British Columbia, DeLila Gehring of Indiana, and Sheryl Bill Zoller of Bismarck; three sisters-in-law, Jeanette Overmoen and Dorothy Overmoen both of Hillsboro, ND, and Ruth Roose of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Laura, Christyn, Ursula, Jennifer, Eric, Sara, Cortney, and Andrew; five great grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew, Juliet Thoreson, Fargo, Sonia Gullicks, Sharon, ND, Mary Borghild Jaffe, San Rafael, CA, John Skar, and Peggy McMillan both of Colorado Springs, CO; fourteen great nephews and nieces; and many other nieces and nephews from Oscar's family. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Bennie Overmoen; four sisters, Marie Shuler, Lydia Overmoen, Isabelle Freeman, and Bernice Skar.
