Ella Meyer

Ella R. Meyer, 76, Baldwin, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by the loving care of her family at her home near Baldwin, November 25, 2009. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr. officiating. Burial will be held in Baldwin Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Ella was born September 29, 1933, near Mercer, ND, to Jake and Hilda Just Buchholz. Ella was baptized in the name of the Lord on November 26, 1933, in Mercer. The family soon moved to rural Bismarck where she attended school. The family later moved to Bismarck where she attended Bismarck High School and graduated with the class of 1952. She worked for the Bank of North Dakota until she married Wilhelm “Bill” Meyer on October 10, 1953, and moved to Baldwin becoming Bill’s life partner in farming and livestock production. They were lifelong members of Zion Lutheran Church. Ella’s hobbies included collecting many beautiful bells and angels, which decorated her home. She loved going for walks, rides in the country, dancing to polkas, and waltzes, and also taking road trips to the Black Hills and Medora with her special love of 56 years. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and looked forward to traveling to the west coast to visit her sisters. Ella also loved cooking and baking, especially during the holidays, when we would all look forward to eating her Special K bars. She had a knack for cooking authentic German food including everybody’s favorite cheese buttons. The love for her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, sisters, brother, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family brought joy into her life. She was very passionate about spending time with family and friends and treasured every moment with them. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her son, Dave and wife, Sherry; her granddaughter, Shaundi; her grandson, Brandon; great granddaughter, Harmony; one brother, Rodger Mavis Buchholz; three sisters, Betty Franklund, Verna Don Johnson, Joyce Torry Johnson; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Hilda; her son, Doug; her special mother-in-law, Sophia; her nephew, Mike; and her dear friend, Gail. We love you very much Grandma, and the memories left behind will be in our hearts forever.
