Elmer Huber

Elmer J. Huber, 74, Bismarck, died December 21, 2003 in a Glen Ullin Care Center. Services will be 11 AM Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Bradley R. Stoltenow officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be 9 AM to 9 PM Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Elmer was born February 2, 1929, near Dodge, ND, the son of Adam and Katherine Frank Huber. He was raised and attended school in the Dodge and Halliday area. He graduated from Halliday High School in 1946. He then attended Dickinson State College, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary and secondary education. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Master of Education Degree in School Administration. Elmer began his teaching career in rural Dodge. He married Delora Bieber on December 29, 1949. His teaching continued in Belfield, Kronthal, Zap, and Hazen. He served as high school principal and superintendent in Hazen for many years. He also served as director of the student union at Dickinson State College for one year. Elmer began working at the Department of Public Instruction in Bismarck in 1972, where he served as Director of Title II, Director of Resources and Services, Assistant Superintendent of Administration, and Deputy Superintendent. Delora died in 1985. He married Helen Leithold Kaul on June 21, 1986. He retired from his education career in 1987. Elmer was active in various church and educational activities. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities. He also served as a lay minister in area churches. He was a member of the ND Council of School Administrators, ND High School Activities Association, Dakota Boys Ranch Board of Directors, Retired Teacher's Association, Phi Delta Kappa, ND Professional Practices Commission, and many other organizations. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Elmer is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Kathy Rooke and her husband, Christopher; two grandchildren, Eric and Melissa Rooke, all of Bismarck; his step daughters, Christie and Steve Wallace, Missoula, MT, Nancy and Dick Crisifulli, Glendive, MT, and Mary and Stu Russell, Helena, MT, one stepson, Allen and AnH Kaul, Miami Beach, FL; eight step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren; three brothers, Victor and Shirley, Dickinson, Raymond and Sharon, Bismarck, and Jerry, Dickinson; three nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delora; one son, Kenneth; his parents; and one brother, Harold.
