Evelyn Jahnke Schiff

Evelyn Jahnke Schiff, 91, died September 9, 2006, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 16, at New Song Community Church, 3200 North 11th Street, Bismarck, with the Rev. Larry Jahnke and his brother, Brian Jahnke, officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 9:00 PM on Thursday and from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM on Friday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn was born on June 6, 1915, in Landsford, ND, on the family farm of her parents, John and Jose Leckvold Nesvig. She received her education in the Landsford area, and graduated from high school in 1933. She continued her education at Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND. She met Glenmore H. Jahnke while he was working at First State Bank in Casselton, ND. They were married on June 20, 1939, at Durbin, ND. They moved to Bismarck in 1946 and began their family. Larry and Brian were the fortunate children to have been born to such awesome parents. They referred to their mom as "The Greatest Mother in the Whole World," and "Saint Evelyn" on numerous occasions. Glen passed away suddenly on February 7, 1962, of a massive heart attack while golfing. Evelyn was able to call 1024 North 4th Street her home for 56 years! After Glen died, Evelyn worked in the administrative office for the Bismarck Public School system for 17 years. She retired at age 65 in 1980. That same year, she married a 4th Street neighbor whom she had known for many years. Clem Schiff and Evelyn recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary on August 8, 2006. Because of Evelyn's great love for people, she had many friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed her numerous bridge groups for many, many years. Her love for her God and family was shown by her actions daily. She will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her husband, Clem Schiff of Bismarck; her sons, Larry Karen Jahnke of Bismarck, and Brian Jahnke of Honolulu, HI; her sister, Clara Trom of Ventura, California; three grandchildren, Jason Jahnke of Bismarck, Joel Bree Jahnke of Bismarck, and Jessica Zach Robbins of Billings, MT; four step-children, Marilyn Himmel of Detroit, MI, Peggy Schiff of Denver, CO, Robert Schiff of Dallas, TX, and Judy Bob Satran of Seattle, WA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Leonard Nesvig of Redwood City, CA, and Maynard Nesvig of Gaylord, MN.
