Freda Thieling

Freda Thieling, 87, Steele, died January 20, 2007, with her daughters by her side at Golden Manor Nursing Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Tuttle, with Rev. Perry Schnabel and Rev. Clayton Scheaffer officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday in Bismarck at Eastgate Funeral Service and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Freda Scherbenske was born on August 14, 1919, in Arena, ND, the daughter of John and Kate Knoepfle Scherbenske. She was raised and attended rural school there until the eighth grade. Freda worked for the Scherbenske Store for three years before marrying Forrest Thieling in Tuttle on January 21, 1947. Together they farmed in the Tuttle area until their retirement. After retirement, Forrest and Freda took many senior citizen tours. Freda enjoyed reading, embroidering, gardening, raising chickens, entertaining in her home, and playing games, especially with her children and grandchildren. Freda was a very active member of the Tuttle United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years, treasurer for S.S. and building fund and member of the United Methodist Women. Freda was an active member of the Tuttle Senior Center and also treasurer of Kickapoo Township. Due to failing health, she entered Golden Manor in July 2004 where she had another loving family around her. Freda dearly loved her family and will be greatly missed by those who survive her, including; two daughters and sons-in-law, LaDonna and Roy Schock of Bismarck, ND, and Judy and Doug Landenberger of Tuttle, ND; her granddaughter, Cindy and Jeff Scharf of Bismarck, ND; her grandsons, Darin and Stacy Schock of Bismarck, ND, and David Landenberger and his fianc'ee, Kristy Anderson of Jamestown, ND; her two great-grandsons, Colton and Carter Scharf of Bismarck, ND; her brother and sister-in-law, Art and Lynora Scherbenske of Tuttle, ND; her sister-in-law, Rose Scherbenske of Tuttle, ND; her brother-in-law, Rueben Rath of Minot, ND; other surviving family members include, brother-in-law, Glenn Thieling of Fargo, ND; her sisters-in-law, Esther White of Minneapolis, MN, Janet Hieb of Burlington, ND, Elaine Larry Bisbee of Salem, OR, Vera Krein and Vernice Thieling both of Tuttle, ND, and Marion Hall of Nampa, ID; and many nieces, nephews, good friends and all of her special friends and caregivers at Golden Manor whom she called "Tootsie". Freda was proceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forrest; her brothers, John, Harold and Robert; and her sisters, Lena Wutzke, Martha Zerr, Erma Hein, Esther Hein, and Albena Rath.
