Helen Neustel

Helen Neustel, 81, died August 25, 2004 in a Steele care center. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson, with the Rev. Valerie Kinlan officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Cemetery in Robinson. Visitation will be 3:30 to 7:00 PM Friday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel where a prayer service will be held 8 PM. Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Helen Jeanette Madson was born September 23, 1922 on the family farm east of Robinson to Oscar and Alma Madson. Helen attended a country school east of the Madson farm. On March 12, 1943 Helen married Harold Neustel in Tacoma, WA. During the time when Harold was serving in World War II, Helen was a welder in the Tacoma shipyards. Helen was very active in the Robinson community and was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a 4-H leader, charter member of the Robinson Homemakers, an ALCW officer, and helped make the current altar cloths for the Bethany Lutheran Church. Helen's grandchildren were a special joy to her. She was always sewing and baking for them. Her grandchildren spent many vacations with their grandparents and they would go on outings and trips together. She got to spend time with her new great-grandchild and that was a particular joy to her during her last days. Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Rick Dewitz, Tappen, ND; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Pat Neustel, Normal, IL, and Kent and Tammy Neustel, Mandan, ND; grandchildren, Jon Dewitz and Calli, Sioux Falls, SD, Chad Dewitz, Mandan, ND, Neal and Becky Dewitz, Brookings, SD, Scot Dewitz, Tappen, ND, Kelsey Neustel, Normal, IL, Dana Neustel, Normal, IL, Brandon Neustel, Portland, OR, and Kylie Neustel, Mandan, ND; great grandchildren, Lucy Grey and Ellie Helen Dewitz, Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Alice Nelson, Jamestown, ND, Gladys Vollmer, West Fargo, ND, Esther Wehage, Portland, OR, Faye Schlager, Jamestown, ND and Evie Schlager, Jamestown, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; two brothers, James and Morris Madson; and three sisters, Marion Sonnenburg, Hazel Neustel, and Edna Morton.
