Hilda Alm

Hilda Graf Alm, 93, Bismarck, ND, moved to heaven October 19, 2013, after a short stay at Sanford Medical Center and a long life of 93 years. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 25, at Grace Lutheran Brethren Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Ryan Nordlund officiating. Burial will be held at Regan Cemetery, Regan. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Hilda Graf was born on December 30, 1919, in Box Elder, MT, the daughter of Gustav and Anna Marie Schlichenmayer Graf. She also resided in Portland, OR, Turtle Lake and Regan, ND. On September 15, 1938, Hilda married Marion Wilton Alm in Bismarck. Hilda and Marion farmed in the Regan community until moving to Bismarck in 1952. Her varied employment included working at the old Governor's Mansion during the Brunsdale Administration, the FW Woolworths, Lynn Super Homebuilders and anywhere someone needed a helping hand. Hard work was the middle name she never had. Yet, this is what enabled her to enjoy a game of bowling with grandchildren at age 90. 'Children…of such is the kingdom of Heaven' and this is what they were to her. Only a child herself at age seven, she was sent out for extended periods of time to care for other families' children. After the loss of her youngest child, she committed to teaching kindergarten Sunday School at First Lutheran Church. Later, as an active member of Grace Lutheran Brethren, many more years were lovingly devoted to their nursery. When her Christian Women's Club needed child care, guess who? Meanwhile her own grandchildren and great grands reaped the benefit of her sewing, crocheting, caramel rolls, sugar cookies and ginger snaps, but most importantly, the knowledge of her unending pride and joy for them all. Hilda is survived by her daughter, Valerie and two sons-in-law, Jerry Delzer, and Gary Plante, Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Parnel/Mary Plante, Bismarck, Parker/Kathy Plante, Clearwater Beach, FL, Apryl/Michael Ghents, Rapid City, SD, Anjyl/Monte Babeck, Bismarck, Damien/Jennifer Delzer, Fairbanks, AK, Dazhe/Tim Bitz, Bismarck, Karsten/Mary Delzer, Loganville, GA; sixteen great-grandchildren, AshleyMike Schumacher, Courtney Plante, Jessica, Michael, & Nicholas Plante, Tyler, Cody, & Brooklynn Ghents, Hunter & KenaDee Babeck, Maxwell & Greyson Delzer, Izaiah & Zechariah Bitz, , and Aria & Elise Delzer; three sisters, Amelia Plienis & ElsieKen Brons, Lynnwood, WA, LorentineAlvin Terry, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Deloris Alm and loyal friends, esp. Edna Larson & Alice Reichenberger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Wilton Alm; her daughter, Mercedes Plante; her son, Arlen; granddaughter, Desiree Delzer; four brothers; and three sisters. Hilda was our example of courage, self-sacrifice, and trust in the Lord forever. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Brethren Church or organization of choice.
