Hilda Hochhalter

Hilda Hochhalter, 85, Bismarck, died April 26, 2011, at the Edgewood Vista, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 29, at Century Baptist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Alan Steier officiating. Burial will be in Alta Cemetery, south of New John?s Lake, ND. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday, April 28, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Hilda Hochhalter was born June 15, 1925, north of Regan, ND, in northern Burleigh Co., to John and Mary Meyer Hausauer. She was raised and educated north of Regan. Hilda married Alvin Hochhalter on May 12, 1944, at Glendive, MT, and they were engaged in farming near Regan for 43 years. Alvin died in Bismarck on October 17, 1983. Hilda retired and moved to Bismarck in January of 1988. Hilda was a member of Century Baptist Church, and belonged to the Century Women?s Fellowship Group. She felt that love for God should be first and foremost. Also meaningful to her were the value of honesty, and the importance of good education. Hilda volunteered for St. Alexius Hospital and enjoyed embroidering, traveling, baking, listening to piano music, watching basketball and baseball games and growing and tending to flowers. October 2003 marked a new chapter in Hilda?s life. She moved to Edgewood Vista assisted living in Bismarck. At Edgewood she made many friends with residents and staff. The final chapter in Hilda?s life started in June 2008 when she moved into the Memory Care Unit at Edgewood. She flourished there with the gentle loving care the staff provided. Hilda was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by her four daughters and three sons-in-law, Evelyn and Jim Franz of Kansas, Diane and Jeff Emhoff of New York, Cheryl Hochhalter of Kansas, and Cathy and Orell Schmitz of Bismarck; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Joyce Hochhalter of Bismarck; her 11 grandchildren, Jamie and Cindy Franz, Tara Cheney; Laura Frei, Josh, Nate and Seth Emhoff; Lindsey Hochhalter; Kara Olson Todd and Brad Schmitz; her 19 great-grandchildren; her sister and 2 brothers-in-law, Ruth and Joe Knowlen of Bismarck and Raymond Wolf of Bismarck; her sisters-in-law, Marcy, Esther and Arlene Hasauer, all of Bismarck, Barbara Hausauer of CA, and many nieces, nephews and good friends. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Edward and Katie Hochhalter; six brothers, John, Clarence, Al, Vern, Paul and William Hausauer; and three sisters, Leona Helgeson, Bernita Wolf and Baby Christine Rose Hausauer.
