Ina Monroe

Ina J. Monroe, 89, Bismarck, died on December 6, 2007, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 - 8:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Ina was born on July 3, 1918, in Slope County, North Dakota, the daughter of Ingvold and Inga Yttri Homelvig. She attended school in Amidon and Dickinson. In 1940, she moved to Bismarck and in October of 1942 she married Homer Monroe. They made their home in Bismarck and raised three daughters. Homer passed away in 1976 after 34 years of marriage. Ina continued to maintain her home until she moved to Crescent Manor in 1980. She lived there for 26 years until April of 2007. Ina was a pleasant and considerate lady whose laughter could be contagious. Her favorite times were playing Bingo with her friends at Crescent Manor. Ina enjoyed spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed any holiday that she could make her grandkids' favorite dish, sweet potatoes. Her family will miss her and the way she lit up a room. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Doll of Bismarck and Joyce and Wes Schafer of Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Shelley Herzing of Alaska, Kelly Herzing of Bismarck, Michael Michelle Schafer of Lincoln, Jennifer Scott Aus of Devils Lake, Joseph Schafer of Bismarck, Thomas Schafer of Bismarck, and Linda Matthews of South Carolina; eight great-grandchildren, Daniel, Catie, and Brandon Schafer, Levi Aus, and Nora, Tausha, DJ, and AJ Matthews; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Miles Kay Homelvig; her sister, Doris Howie; and her sister-in-law, Maize Homelvig. Ina was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Monroe; her daughters, Diane and Linda; her son-in-law, Raymond Doll; and her siblings, Marion Inman-Anderson, Nora Echard, Gladys Miller, Clifford Homelvig, and Elmer Homelvig.
