Jeff Burgess

Jeff Burgess, 56, Bismarck, died September 26, 2009, in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:30 pm Wednesday. Jeff was born on August 27, 1953, in Fargo, ND the son of Colburn and Charlotte Kvislen Burgess. He attended Bismarck High School, graduating in 1971; North Dakota State University, graduating in 1976 with a Civil Engineering Degree; University of Cincinnati, graduating with a Masters in Environmental Engineering, and the University of North Dakota graduating with a Masters in Public Administration. Jeff married Sylvia Sturn on August 26, 1994. Jeff was an avid sportsman and spectator, enjoying track, basketball, volleyball, bowling, softball, and hunting. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 28 years, as well as, Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Jeff served on both the campaign and executive committees for the Cottonwood Park Project, “Cottonwood Ninety,” from 1988 until 1991. He was an elected representative on the Bismarck Slow Pitch Softball Association from 1986 until 2000; and also served as the President and State Representative. Jeff was employed with the North Dakota State Health Department for 24 years, and since 2001, has been working for the Lignite Energy Council as Research and Development Director. Jeff is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his son, Nicolaus “Nick” Burgess and his daughter, Jennifer Brad Castner; his mother, Charlotte Burgess; his sister, Deb Neil Rittenauer, and their children, Candace Casey Ehlert and Mark Jennifer Rittenauer; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Richard and Lillian Sturn; his sisters-in-law: Pam Joe Doto, and their children, Abby and Andrea; Judy Morel and special friend, Ace Kursave, and her children, Ryan, Brandon, and Cristen; and Cindy Brad Binegar, and their children, Meagan, Erica, and Brooke; his brother-in-law, Dean Rachel Sturn, and their children, Jacob and Hunter; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, special neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Colburn Burgess; and his grandparents, Roy and Alice Burgess and Olaf and Inga Kvislen.
