Jerilynn Suzie M Herr

Suzie Herr passed away Sunday, July 17, at her home with her daughters by her side. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 22, at 1:00 pm at Legacy United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Jerilynn Maye Dietz was born February 27, 1950, to Roy H. and Emma Link Dietz. Jerilynn got her nickname of Suzie from her father when she was a young girl and has been called that since. Suzie is one of eleven children born to Roy and Emma and always held her large family of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins dear to her. She enjoyed the many times her family got together for coffee, picnics and holidays. Suzie lived in Bismarck most of her life, graduating from Bismarck High and attended the First United Methodist Church. Suzie was united in marriage to Mike Herr in June 1971 and to that unity three daughters were born, Melissa, Kasey, and Kelly. Her daughters and their families were her life. Suzie was a very proud woman, especially of her home, yard and the job she held for the State of North Dakota in Human Services. She worked for the State for over 20 years and was looking forward to the day she could retire allowing her to spend more time with her daughters and grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than the opportunity to visit her daughters, helping them with various projects from mowing yards, planting flowers, painting, grouting floors and just about anything she could do to help. She loved to play Polly Pockets, sing songs, read books and watch her grandchildren play ball and stay busy. Gramma Suzie was very special and will be missed greatly by her family. Her contagious laughter, warm hugs and gooey caramels rolls will always be with her girls and grandchildren. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Barry Valburg, Draper, SD, Kasey and Andy Metzger, Fargo, ND, and Kelly and Chris Volk, American Fork, UT; her granddaughters, Mallory and Sunny Lee Valburg and her grandsons, Charlie and Harry Metzger; her brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Diana and Frank Lester, Yvonne Peters, Debi and Gary Bentley, Brenda and Bob Schmidt, Pat Dietz, Gary and Margo Dietz, Deb Larson, Tom and Nancy Dietz, Jeff and Peggy Dietz; her mother-in-law, Esther Herr; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Suzie is also survived by her Godson, Tommy Dietz and her special mowing buddy, Kendall Dietz. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sharon; her brothers, Ron and Jim; brother-in-law, Roger Peters; her father-in-law, Art Herr and her infant grandson, Clarence Arthur Volk. Her daughters would like to give a heartfelt thank you for the care and compassion received from the Med Center One ICU nurses and doctors and the Hospice staff.
