John Jack Dennis Lynch

John Jack Dennis Lynch, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Bismarck on November 9, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, November 14, at First Presbyterian Church, 214 E Thayer Ave, Bismarck, with Pastor Cathy Bliss officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, November 13, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Jack was born on October 11, 1935, in Fargo, North Dakota to John William and Ada Lucille Colvin Lynch. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953 and Jamestown College in 1957. Jack served in the Army from 1957 to 1959 at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Jack married Ann Gallagher on December 27, 1960 in Jamestown, North Dakota. Jack was a Physical Education and Math teacher for 38 years. He spent his first three years at Killdeer High School, where he met Ann. He spent the last 35 years at Bismarck High School, retiring in 1997. Jack refereed many decades, doing football and basketball. He did many state championships in both sports and also doing many college games for both. Jack is the father of John Jeri Lynch, Jr., Jamestown, ND, Mike Cammy Lynch, Hazen, ND and Kathy Colburn, Centennial, CO. Jack coached Cross Country, Track and Field, Basketball and Summer Swimming. His Cross Country teams captured 5 State Championships, a program that he started. He was a part of 6 State Track and Field Championships. Jack was inducted into the North Dakota Hall of Fame for Referees and Coaching. He is also in the Hall of Fame for the State Amateur Basketball and North Dakota State Track and Field. In 2010, Jack was given the University of Jamestown Rollie Greeno Award for dedication to education by a University of Jamestown graduate. He was a member of Elks and the National Phy Ed, Recreation and Dance organization. Jack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Bismarck, where he served as an Elder and Deacon. Jack's love of sports, teaching and community was only surpassed by his love of his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. He loved going to his grandchildren's games and activities, even traveling hundreds of miles to see them. There was nothing that Jack loved more than his family and his faith. Jack's humor, smile and positive attitude will be missed. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his children, John, Jr. Jeri, Mike Cammy, and Kathy; his grandchildren, John William, Jordan, Jana, Tyler, Riley, Mikaela, Phoebe and Caleb; nne brother, Donald Lynch; cousin, Kari Dailey, and many nieces and nephew. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Lucille Colvin Lynch; and one brother, Robert Lynch. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the University of Jamestown or 1st Presbyterian Church Daycare Center, Bismarck.
