Kathryn Schmidt

Kathryn "Kathy" Schmidt, 70, Bismarck died August 7, 2014, at a Bismarck hospital, after an unexpected illness, surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 12, at 10:00 AM at Church of the Ascension in Bismarck with Rev. Msgr. Thomas Richter and Rev. Msgr. James Braaten officiating. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Kathy was born May 25, 1944, in Cando, ND, to the late Clarence and Lavina Michels Cramer. She graduated from Cando High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation she moved to Bismarck where she worked downtown at Finney Drug until her marriage. She married Leo Schmidt on July 20, 1968. They lived in Bismarck, ND, and together they had three children. While raising a family, Kathy worked outside of the home in the dietary department at Missouri Slope nursing facility and worked at many delis throughout Bismarck before managing the deli at Barlow's Super Valu in Mandan. Kathy loved spending time with her family, especially her six grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she loved babysitting for them and attending all of their games, programs, and activities. She had a passion for cooking, especially for her husband and family and her greatest delight was decorating and preparing for the holidays. She had many interests in life including crafts, sewing, reading and really enjoyed going to the YMCA to swim with friends. Kathy enjoyed spending time with Leo at the Eagles Club for dinner, bingo, and visiting with friends. She had a warm and nurturing spirit and always had a smile for everyone. She was always there to listen and help in anyway, always putting others before herself. We will forever miss the fun, lively and loving person she was. Heaven just received one heck of a Grandma! Kathy is survived by Leo, her husband of 46 years; three children, Nancy Stacey Zander, Bismarck, Kurt Missy Schmidt, Bismarck, and Scott Schmidt, Las Vegas, NV; six grandchildren, Casey, Cole, Kensi and Kerrigan Zander, Bismarck, and Dylan and Teagan Schmidt, Bismarck; one sister, Gerri Fix, Bismarck; three brothers, Richard Clairice Cramer, Kindred, ND, Robert Cramer, Seattle, WA, and Michael Cramer, Everett, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth Cramer; and three sisters, Helen Holter, Sharon Radke, and baby sister, Wanda Sue.
