Lois Thompson

Lois Thompson passed away peacefully on November 13, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center following a most challenging year. She was 82. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Schick officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Education was the center of Lois' life. She attended 1st and 2nd grade in Stanley, ND, moved to Bismarck in 1938 and attended Richholt School, Bismarck Junior High and graduated from Bismarck High School. She continued her education graduating from Bismarck Junior College and from Jamestown College in 1953. She taught 7th grade English at Bismarck Junior High for 4 years and at Simle Junior High for 25 years from 1964 until her retirement in 1989. Many friends and acquaintances of her children would remark that "Mrs. Thompson" was one of their best teachers and influenced them throughout their lives. After retirement she tutored immigrants working to improve their English speaking skills through Trinity Lutheran Church. Lois married Ronald Thompson in 1954. Ron died on June 26, 1978. She married Gibbs Molland in 1989. He passed away in 1990. Lois was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church beginning in 1938 and looked forward to Sunday services sitting with her friends Linda & Eunice. She was proud of the volunteer work she did in the church library. She was also a member of the BSC Alumni Association, the VFW Auxiliary, NDEA, NEA and Bismarck Retired Teachers. Some of the things she enjoyed most in life were going to Rock Lake, reading and traveling to Europe and around the US. She loved a good laugh and kept her sense of humor through the toughest of times. Lois dearly loved her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Dave and friend Sue, Dan and wife Patsy, and daughter Sally; her granddaughter Abby and husband Mike Krebs; grandsons, Zachary Thompson, Kris, Jesse and Josh Briggs, her great-grandchildren Nevaeha, Mylee and Novalee Briggs; sisters-in-law, Donna Vallarano and LuVerne Thompson. Lois had many special friends who supported her throughout her life. Lois was also preceded in death by her parents, Edith Rue and Paul Dalager; two sisters, Norma and Margaret Betty; and a niece, Diane. Memorials can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck and the Bismarck Cancer Center.
