Lucile Heaton

Lucile Heaton, 88, McKenzie, passed away March 11, 2012, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, March 14, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Ray Baker officiating. Burial will be held at Menoken Cemetery, Menoken. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Tuesday, March 13, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Lucile was born September 8, 1923, in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Hanks Craven. She was raised in rural Burleigh County and attended grade school in rural Menoken and graduated from Menoken High School. Lucile attended Valley City Teacher's College, receiving a teaching certificate. She taught at rural schools in Emmons and Burleigh counties for several years. On November 30, 1946, Lucile married Russell Heaton in Bismarck. For the next 65 years, they farmed in the McKenzie area and raised their ten children. She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed caring for her family. She loved gardening; growing beautiful flowers was her specialty. She enjoyed puzzles, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and knitting. She made afghans for each of her grandchildren and made special blankets for many of the great-grandchildren. She looked forward to going to her birthday club outings with her friends and family. She also enjoyed going to Bible study. Lucile served on the Logan Township election board for several years. She loved having company stop in for coffee and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family; her face lit up each time one of them walked through the door. Lucile is survived by her husband, Russell, McKenzie; her children, Mary, McKenzie, John Yvonne, Driscoll, Nancy Brant Malsam, Bismarck, David Barb, Steele, Timothy Angee, Bismarck, Patrick Connie, McKenzie, Thomas Cindy, Lincoln, Michael Corrine, Bismarck, Beth Michael Leintz, Menoken, and Bert Jodi, Bismarck. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Catherine Melvin Hanson, Bismarck, and Elizabeth Lyle Ennen, Menoken; her brothers, John Calvin Jane Craven, OR, and Don Craven, OR; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Arleen Craven, WY, Mary Gietzen, Glen Ullin, Joanne Willette, MN, Geneva Philip Kurtz, Steele, and Virginia Lloyd Benz, Steele; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Harriet Heaton. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillian Craven, Buryl and Ernest Doehle; her brothers, Bernard, James and Gerald Craven and her brothers-in-law, Harry Roberson, Wililam Gietzen and Michael Willette.
