Luella McClure

Luella G. McClure, loving wife and mother, resident of Bismarck died April 19, 2012, at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012, at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Luella Geneva Larson was born June 27, 1919, at the family home on 1st Street North in Fargo, ND. She was the eldest of ten children born to Carl and Agnes Larson. After her father died in the early 1930s, she significantly helped her mother in caring for her younger brothers and sisters. Lue graduated from Fargo Senior High School in 1937. Following high school she began work at Herbst Department Store, and later she worked at W. W. Wallwork's automotive dealership as a clerk in the administrative office. On June 14, 1941, she married Neal A. McClure. The wedding was held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Fargo. During World War II, Lue followed her husband Neal, who had entered the U.S. Navy, when he was assigned to Camp Farragut, ID. She worked at Montgomery Wards doing clerical and stenographic duties in Coeur d'Alene until Neal was transferred to the San Diego Naval Training Center in California in 1944. While in San Diego, Lue was employed by the San Diego Ration Board until 1946 when the family moved to Cavalier, ND. While in Cavalier, Lue worked at the Merchants and Farmers Bank. When her husband's North Dakota Army National Guard unit was called to active service during the Korean War, Lue moved and lived for a time in Tacoma, WA, before returning to North Dakota. In 1955 the family moved from Cavalier to Devils Lake, ND. In Devils Lake, she worked for three years at the Ramsey County Selective Service Board. When Neal was transferred to Grand Forks, ND, Lue began a very enjoyable eight-year work experience with the Red River National Bank. In 1967 the family moved to Bismarck, ND. There Lue worked for the 1st National Bank, now US Bank, in the Trust Department. She ended her working career in 1981. Lue and Neal were long-time members of First Lutheran Church in Bismarck, joining that congregation in 1967. Lue sang in the choir for many years and participated in many church-related activities. Lue will be remembered by her family and friends as a kind, outgoing, loving wife and mother. She truly enjoyed a wide circle of wonderful friends. She also enjoyed reading, playing bridge, singing in the church choir, and family gatherings. Lue is survived by her devoted husband, Neal; two sons, Brian Dorothy and Ron Pat both of Fargo; and three grandchildren, Michael, Karen, and Scott. She is also survived by one sister, Beverly Holm of Fargo; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
