Margaret Gwyther

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Gwyther, 81, Bismarck, died Thursday, January 14, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil will begin at 7:00 p.m. Peggy was born on October 2, 1928, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Mary Louise and George Rambow. Peggy was raised and educated in Solen, ND, where she graduated from Solen High School in 1944 at the age of 16. She continued her education at Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Jamestown. Peggy graduated with a nursing degree at the age of 19, and because of her age, needed special permission to take her state boards to become a RN. Peggy married Ruel “Merv” Gwyther on December 29, 1949, at Fort Rice, ND. Following their marriage they lived in the Bismarck area. Peggy worked as an RN at Q & R Clinic, Standard Oil Refinery and St. Alexius Medical Center. After Merv’s retirement they moved to Athens, Georgia, from 1986 -1997. In Athens, Peggy worked at St. Mary’s Hospital. In 1997, they returned to Bismarck. Peggy and Merv loved to travel, and Peggy was happy to have visited the Holy Land twice. They also traveled to Europe and Asia several times and extensively throughout the United States. Peggy had a great love for her garden and flowers, and never gave up a chance to go out fishing. Peggy was an active member of Ascension parish. She volunteered her time and talent in several capacities. Her generosity was much appreciated by family and friends that she touched. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Mary Joan Gwyther, Buus, Switzerland; her sister, Mary Ellen Larson, Bismarck; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merv; their three infant children, Michael, Joseph and Debra Kay; her parents; her sister, Helen Bauer and her brothers, James, Charles, George, and William Rambow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Central High School Tuition Fund or the Breast Cancer Association of Mayo Clinic.
