Mary Dworshak

Mary Dworshak, 89, Bismarck, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Baptist Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am Thursday, February 10, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Tuesday and from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday. Mary was the fourth child born to Jacob A. and Katherine Fettig Feist on April 23, 1921, at Hague, ND. She was raised on the family farm three miles southwest of Hague, was educated in a one-room country school house through the seventh grade, when she then left school to help on the family farm. At the age of 16, Mary was a hired hand to many area farmers. At the age of 18, she moved to Bismarck to work as a maid. She later returned home to help out on the family farm. In 1942, Mary returned to Bismarck and work as a chamber maid at the Prince Hotel. On June 22, 1943, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Anton T. Dworshak at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. Together, they purchased a home in 1946, where Mary was a stay-at-home mom to take care of her children and also did laundry and daycare for numerous people. Mary was a life-long member of the St. Mary's Altar Society, St. Jude's Mission Group and The Blue Army. She enjoyed holding family dinners for her children and relatives and spending many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens. Mary was also famous for her baked goods, as all Germans know about, overnight buns, bread, kuchen, caramel rolls and boska easter bread. Together, Anton and Mary enjoyed traveling across the US and many foreign countries and they made a holy pilgrimage to Rome and the Vatican. She also kept in touch with family and friends throughout the US and foreign countries, by sending and receiving anniversary, birthday, and Christmas cards and letters. Mary is survived by her husband of 67 years, Anton; seven daughters, LaVina Boesen, Waterloo, IA, Elizabeth Ron Schuler, Dunlap, TN, Stella Dias, West Warwick, RI, Patricia Roger Klein, Bismarck, Shirley Randy Hochhalter, New Leipzig, Debra Joe Leingang, Bismarck, and Marla Serflaton, Omaha, NE; two sons, Kenneth Karen and Steven Stephanie all of Bismarck; one daughter-in-law, Karen, Radcliff, KY; 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; five sisters and one brother; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her three sons, one infant, Charles and Gerald; four sisters; one brother and her parents.
