Mildred Johnson

Mildred Johnson, 95, died December 2, 2011, at a Mandan Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Washburn. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Mildred was born on May 26, 1916, in Underwood, ND, to Fred and Bertha Harris Koenig. She graduated from Underwood High School in 1934. After graduation, Mildred worked part-time at the NYA Office and the County Agent Office in Washburn, ND. She married Everett E. Johnson on December 30, 1939, at Glendive, MT. They lived and farmed the family homestead until moving to Bismarck in December of 1955. Before moving to Bismarck, Mildred was a member of the Darling Homemakers Club of Turtle Lake and a member of the Star Homemakers Club of Washburn. She was also a 4-H leader for the Smiling Pals 4-H Club of Washburn. Mildred and Everett were members of the Washburn Square Dance Club. After moving to Bismarck, Mildred worked part-time doing housework and babysitting until she started working at the ND State Library. She worked there for fifteen years and retired in August of 1981. Mildred and Everett were members of First Lutheran Church in Bismarck and took part in many church projects and activities. Mildred enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and family get-togethers. She also enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Crooked Lake. She enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk, Daniel O'Donnell, Jeopardy, and Millionaire. Mildred and Everett enjoyed their vacations to Disneyland, Disney World, Branson, Nashville, and the World's Fair in Seattle. She was a good cook and her family especially enjoyed eating her macaroni salad and raisin cake. Mildred entered the Medcenter One Mandan Care Center off Collins in October 2009. Mildred is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Clarence "Natch" Doll of Mandan; her son, Reed of Washburn; her granddaughter, Susan Randall Keller of Mandan and their family, Alexis, Elise, Ian, and Vincent; her granddaughter, Sheri Scott Martin of Eau Clair, WI, and their family, Brady, Brock, Brent, and Brittany; her brother, Doyle Koenig of Underwood; her sister, Enid Mummert of Seattle, WA; her sisters-in-law, Rose Koenig of Underwood, Jackie Dzidek of Salem, OR, and Bernyce Koenig of Las Vegas, NV; her brothers-in-law, Arlan Johnson of Washburn and Clarence Soliday of Reardan, WA; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bertha Koenig; her husband, Everett; her brothers, LeRoy and Melvin; her sisters, Emerald infant, Lois Johannes, and Lillian Soliday; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Magna Johnson; her stepfather-in-law, Fred Hanson; her brothers-in-law, Warner Mummert, Vernon, Ervin, and Eldred Johnson; her sisters-in-law, Pat Koenig, Ruby Johnson, and Audrey Johnson; her niece, Karla Westmoreland; and her special friend, Ida Lindlauf.
