Myron Mastrud

Myron "Butch" Mastrud, 57, Bismarck, died October 3, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 12:00 Noon at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Larry Giese officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Vetera''s Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Myron was born on April 2, 1955, in Mayville, ND, to Myron and Delores Balstad Mastrud. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hatton, ND. He graduated from Hatton High School in 1973. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He went to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and was then stationed at Minot Air Force Base. He served in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. After that, he was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base and was honorably discharged in 1977. In 1977, he enlisted in the Army National Guard at Mayville, ND, and later transferred to the Happy Hooligans Air Guard in Fargo, ND, upon retiring in 1997. Myron married Cathy Ness of Northwood, ND, at Northwood Evangelical Church on August 19, 1978. Two children were born to this happy couple, Derek and Heidi. Myron attended Mayville State University in Mayville, ND, and graduated in 1982 with a B.A. degree. He was employed by American Crystal Sugar of Hillsboro, ND, from 1982 – 1987. From 1987 – present, he was employed with the Adjutant General's Office as physical plant director of the Army Aviation Support Facility. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Hatton, ND, and was in the Unknown Bowling League at the Ten Spot in Mandan. Myron is survived by his wife, Cathy of Bismarck; his children, Derek and Heidi of Bismarck; his mother, Delores Mastrud of Hatton, ND; his sisters, Susan Steve Aune of Lake City, FL, Debra James Frandson of Hunter, ND, Dorothy David Flaten of Hatton, ND, Judy Tim Richardson of Deer Park, AL, Tami Keith Ostlie of Hatton, ND, and Patricia Scott Marks of Pierce, NE; his brothers, Gary Marlene Mastrud of East Grand Forks, MN, and Timothy Cindy Mastrud of Rifle, CO; many nieces and nephews; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Myron, in 1979.
