Olga Redington

On September 11, 2010, Olga Adamyk Redington, 82, was called home to be with the Lord and Savior that she loved, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Evangelical Free Church in Wilton, with Pastor Joseph Kost officiating. Burial will be at Mission Free Cemetery in Wilton. Family will receive guests on Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck. Olga was born on March 2, 1928, in Wilton, ND, the daughter of Matt and Mary Hryckow Adamyk. Shortly after her birth, the Adamyk family moved to the mining town of Chapin, near Wilton, until the death of her father. Olga’s mother, Mary, was a widow with six children during the Depression years. She bought one of the Chapin mining houses and moved it to her family’s farm about ten miles north of Wilton. Many years later, Olga negotiated moving this Chapin Miners home to Buckstop Junction. She helped preserve the little house for history; it can be seen there today. Olga attended Wilson Rural School, Wilton Elementary and Wilton High School, graduating in 1946. While in school and on the family farm, Olga continuously helped with chores and farm work. Upon graduation, Olga attended Bible College in Atlanta, GA. She taught at Pleasant View Rural School and worked for a time in the filing department at the State Capital. In 1956, Olga married Wilton resident, Donald Redington. They farmed and over the next few years their children were born. After living in many locations in North Dakota, they settled back in the Wilton area where Olga lived until the time of her death. Olga enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, bird watching, collecting rocks, and the outdoors. She also enjoyed the Daily Fox news, world events, and political commentaries. She loved her children and her granddaughter, and also loved God’s creations and she promoted kindness to all animals. Most of all, Olga wanted to further the kingdom of God here on earth. She taught Bible study for a time and had a vision for Christian education in the area. She was a strong motivation in the early years for the start of Shiloh Christian School in Bismarck. When Olga’s mother aged, she brought her home and cared for Mary for eleven years. Of all the things she looked back on during her life, Olga counted this as one of the most meaningful – saying she would gladly do it all over again and would try to do everything twice as good for her mother! Olga is survived by her husband, Donald; son, Mark; daughter, Marianne Redington; granddaughter, Hannah Tangen; brother, Ted Jeanette Adamyk; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mike Adamyk; and sisters, Pearl Basaraba, Zinnia Leier, and Anna Gaylord. Olga touched many lives in a positive way and she will be greatly missed. We love you mom!
