Patrick Flanagan, Sr.

Patrick Ronald Flanagan, 69, Bismarck, died July 4, 2009, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 12:30 pm Friday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. John Flanagan and Rev. Murray Phillips officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday and from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm Friday at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Pat was born on July 8, 1939, in Bismarck, North Dakota, the first child of Raymond and Beatrice Flanagan. He grew up in Bismarck and attended St Mary’s Central High School. Pat joined the United States Navy in 1956 receiving his GED and returned to Bismarck in 1960. He married Diann David on June 27, 1964, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck. Pat and Diann’s first daughter, Julie, was born July 2, 1965, their second daughter, Patricia, was born October 25, 1966, and their son, Patrick, was born August 7, 1969. From the early 1960’s through the early 1990’s, Pat was employed as a bartender in Bismarck. Following his work as a bartender, Pat was employed at Dan’s Supermarket in the bakery until his retirement. Pat enjoyed fishing, hunting, berry picking and many other outdoor activities. He was always willing to sample strange new foods and try his hand at cooking and pickling interesting fruits, vegetables and meats of all types. He especially enjoyed the times he and Diann spent with his sisters, brothers and their families. Pat is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Murray Phillips and their children, LeAnne and Sean, of Whiteside, Missouri; his daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Jerry Mitchell and their sons, Jesse and Justin, of Mandan; and son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Connie and their daughter, Cori, of Menoken. He is also survived by his sisters, Wanda John Lamontagne, Inez Ryberg, and Ramona Jerry Birdsell; his brothers, Mike Flanagan, John Faye Flanagan, David Flanagan, and Danny Flanagan; his brothers-in-law, Elmer Daarud and Robert Elaine David; his sister-in-law, Kathy Ken Lake; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diann; his parents; his brothers-in-law, Douglas David and Jerry Ryberg; his sisters-in-law, Betty Daarud and Alvina Flanagan; and his nephew, Raymond Lamontagne.
