Paul Carl Flurer

Paul Carl Flurer, 83, died peacefully January 19, 2011 at St. Gabriel's Community surrounded by his loving children. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22, at 10:30 at St. George's Episcopal Church, 4th and Ave B, Bismarck, with Fr. Michael Horn presiding. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at a later date in Gethsemane Cathedral, Fargo, N.D. Paul was born May 9, 1927 in Bismarck, the son of Carl and Martha Ziegler Flurer. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1945. Paul entered the Navy before graduation in April 1945. He served on the USS Casablanca in the Pacific and was honorably discharged June 14, 1946. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a BS in accounting in 1950. On August 30, 1952, Paul was united in marriage to Yvonne Bonnie Mae Ode. They were fully committed to one another. After Bonnie's death in May 2001, Paul continued to cherish her in his heart. Paul used his diligent accounting skills working for the City of Bismarck, the North Dakota State Mill and Elevator Grand Forks, and then joined his father and brother at Skeels Electric Bismarck in 1963. Paul retired from Skeels in May 1989. Paul was active in both community and his church. Paul was instrumental in establishing the YMCA in Bismarck. Paul held a national office with NECA National Electrical Contractor Association for many years. His faith life included serving on St. George's Vestry and being treasurer. Paul was an extremely devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. He was particularly loving and boastful of his grandchildren, often enhancing their achievements. Paul will be missed by his family and friends. He loved life and lived it with robust enthusiasm and great integrity. Paul is survived by his daughters Nancy Mrs. Greg Bjerke, Fargo, Marty Mrs. Tom Peterson, St. Cloud, Minnesota, his son Robert Robin Flurer, Bismarck, one granddaughter Katie Mrs. Andy Doeden, and five grandsons Patrick Bjerke, Casey and Tyler Peterson, and Zachary and Andrew Flurer and one great-granddaughter Claire Doeden. He is also survived by sister Elizabeth Love Minot and brother Dick Doris Flurer Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Yvonne. Memorials are preferred to St. George's Episcopal Church, Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
