Phyllis Solheim

Phyllis "Faye" L. Solheim, 87, recently of Killdeer, ND, formerly of Bismarck, died on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at a Bismarck medical center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the ND Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Faye was born on August 28, 1923, to Peder Oscar and Clara Knudson Pederson in Driscoll, ND, the fourth of five children. After graduation from Driscoll High School, she earned a standard degree in elementary education at Valley City State Teachers' College in the early 1940s and completed her bachelor's degree at Mary College in the late 1960s. On August 2, 1945, she married Victor E. Solheim. She and her husband raised a family of three children. Prior to her marriage, she taught at schools in the Driscoll area and at Fort Yates. After moving to Bismarck in the mid-1950s, she taught upper elementary grades at Wachter, Saxvik, Pioneer, and Miller Schools until her retirement in 1984. An early highlight of her retirement was an extended auto trip with Victor through the Canadian Maritime Provinces and the New England States. A homemaker, mother, and educator, she was an excellent seamstress, often making clothing for herself, her children, and her grandchildren. She was a life-long avid reader and took great pleasure in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her close friends. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck and a regular participant in her women's circle there. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Alan Pennington of Killdeer; her son and daughter-in-law, Dave Solheim and Barbara Laman of Dickinson; five grandchildren, Benjamin and Charla Grenz Solheim of Portland, OR, Julia Solheim of Brooklyn, NY, TJ and Greta Furseth Pennington of Killdeer, Josh Pennington of Killdeer, and Haleigh Solheim of Frenchtown, MT; her brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Lucy Pederson of Tucson, AZ; seven nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor; three siblings, Vernon "Buddy" Pederson, Vernice "Sis" Mode Helberg, Klamath Falls, OR, and Audrey Adam, Sacramento, CA; one daughter-in-law, Joan Senzek Solheim; and her younger son, Dean Charles Solheim recently of the Missoula area. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends memorial donations to charitable organizations such as Trinity Lutheran Church, the God's Child Project, or Hilltop Home of Comfort Heritage Foundation in Killdeer.
