Robert Randall, Sr.

Robert N Randall, age 91, Bismarck, passed awayon January 30, 2007. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Jake Kincaid officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Robert was born on October 26, 1915, in Georgetown, CO. He grew up and attended elementary school in Georgetown, CO, where his father was the owner and editor of the local newspaper. He attended Colorado State College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts now Colorado State University where he received a degree in Forestry. After working for the Forest Service, Soil Conservation Service, and the Bureau of Biological Survey, he went to work for the Colorado Game and Fish Department where he served as biologist until joining the Armed Services during World War II. He served with the Corps of Engineers at Churchill in northern Manitoba and in the China-Burma-India theater. After discharge from the army he received an appointment with the US Fish and Wildlife service where he served until retirement in 1973. He married Tella Sue DeNeal Hottle on August 15, 1941, at Glenwood Springs, CO. They moved to Bismarck in 1948 to assume supervision of Fish and Wildlife activities of water development projects in the Dakotas. He had a great interest in the outdoors and was a bird watcher ever since high school. He was also interested in rocks and minerals and built on a collection he had inherited from his father and grandfather. He was one of the founders of the Bismarck-Mandan Bird Club in 1952 and was active in the Central Dakota Gem and Mineral Society and served as treasurer for the Rock Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies for three years. He was also a member of the North Dakota Paleontological Society and a member of the Bismarck Lions Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bismarck and had served one term as deacon and two terms as Ruling Elder. Robert will be greatly missed by his son, Robert Randall, daughter-in-law, Joni, and granddaughters, Kelly, Casey, and Lauren, all of Burnsville, MN; and his daughter-in-law, Wanda Randall of Bullhead City, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, and son Daniel. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to donors choice.
