Roger Jelsing

Roger Arthur Jelsing, 73, Bismarck, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 13, 2010, at his cabin on Brush Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Roger was born on March 28, 1937, at Rugby, ND, the son of Arthur and Clara Sand Jelsing. He grew up in Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School. He served in the ND National Guard for eight years. Roger married Lorraine Welk on May 11, 1957, in Rugby. They built their home and raised their family in Harvey for 38 years before retiring and moving to Bismarck to be near their grandchildren. Roger worked as a parts and service man for H.E. Everson, Genuine Parts, Bentz Implement, and Ripplinger Motors, all in Harvey. He was a member of Harvey Eagles Club and St. Anne’s Church in Bismarck. His favorite pastimes were spending time with family and camping. He enjoyed campfire stories, jokes, and humorous pranks when Roger would usually be found sitting by with a smile on his face or chuckling to himself. His grandchildren were the twinkle in his eye, and he enjoyed the special moments and loving hugs he shared with them. Our hearts ache to say goodbye, but we are placing our faith in the Heavenly Father to take him home. Roger is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his four daughters, Gayle Monte Schneibel, Rugby, Lori James Hager, Bismarck, Lona Jelsing friend, Faith Vebsky, Harvey, and Glenda Wade Thomssen, Bismarck; his seven grandchildren, Dustin Schneibel, Jaime Chad Wolf, Travis Hager, Michael Schneibel, Tascha Hager, Danie Thomssen and Macie Thomssen and two great-grandchildren, Madison Wolf and Brayden Wolf; his brother, Dwight Mary Jelsing, Rugby; and his sisters, Javonne Harward, Saratoga, CA, Marrel Floyd Burow, Detroit Lakes, MN, Sandra Blessum, Brownsfield, TX, and Peggy Gary Oksendahl, Rugby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara Jelsing; and his sister, Gayle Jelsing.
