Sarah M Scholl

Sarah M. Scholl, 86, Bismarck, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2013, at her home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am Monday, March 25, at the Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Graveside services will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 – 8 pm at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Sarah was born in Flasher, ND, to Irvin and Cecelia Carstensen Keith. She attended country schools in Morton County, graduating from Flasher High School in 1945. She was united in marriage to Connie Scholl in 1946, celebrating 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. They were blessed with five children, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Sarah's career with the North Dakota Division of Vital Statistics spanned 43 years, ending with her retirement in 2002. Her assistance to families processing birth, death, and marriage records left a lasting legacy to countless numbers of people nationwide over the years. Sarah enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, entertaining often in her home and at the family cabin at Lake Isabel. She was an awesome cook and her kitchen was always open; she could feed five or fifty at a moment's notice and never miss a beat. She was known for her embroidery and had created beautiful pieces for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years. She never turned down the chance at a rousing game of pinochle, often playing for hours. She truly enjoyed the friendships she made with her condo neighbors and said "moving into the condo was the best move I ever made." Together, they planted and grew beautiful flowers in the spring. She was very proud of her family, and never tired of hearing about the achievements and adventures of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sarah was a past president of the Bismarck/Mandan Elkettes, and Dan Mimnaugh and the children of Camp Grassick held a special place in her heart. Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Jan Channel, Phoenix, AZ; Darrel Debbie Scholl, Vonnie John Doone, Arlan Annette Scholl, all of Bismarck; and Lynn Bruce Menne of Bothell, WA. Her grandchildren include Wade Sarah Hought, Joy Hought, Todd Jeanne Hought, Aimee Channel; Brianne Schmidt, Lindsey Schmidt, Maddie Scholl; Angela LeeRon Plante, Jeff Scholl; Haley Aaron Pies, and Daniel Menne. Her great grandchildren are Connor Hought and Jonathan and Marianne Plante. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Tony Gustin and her brothers Chris Charolotte Jensen and Willis Loretta Keith, her sisters-in-law Corrine Scholl and Jan Scholl, and her special friend Dolly Erickson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Connie Scholl; her parents; two sisters, Rena Anderson and Edith Constans; and one grandson, Steven Hought. In lieu of flowers, Sarah preferred memorials to Elks Camp Grassick, PO Box 1596, Bismarck, ND, 58501 or the Disabled American Veterans DAV c/of Adam Klein, Chapter 3, PO Box 915, Bismarck, ND, 58502. Our family would also like to send a special thank you to St. Alexius Hospice, for the compassionate care provided to our Mother during her illness. And yes Mama - we'll remember to always butter the toast all the way to the edges!
