Thomas M Brown

Thomas "Tom" Brown, 79, Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly in his home on February 15, 2014. Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 19, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 18, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. Tom was born October 15, 1934, in Jamestown, ND, the son of Henry and Maria Brown. He graduated in May of 1952 from Stanley High School. Tom attended St. Mary's College, Winona, MN, from 1952-1954, and transferred to Interstate Business College, Fargo, ND, from 1955-1957. In April of 1957, he entered the US Army until 1959. Tom served with an infantry unit in the US and Korea. In 1961, he was employed with the Bureau of Reclamation which changed to Western Area Power Administration in 1977. In 1981, he was in charge of the warehouse and became a supply technician with the same company. After 34 years of employment with the company, he retired in 1995. In between his break from work, he volunteered at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Tom loved visiting and helping the residents. He was also a member of RSVP program and was named Volunteer of the Week for helping with patients where he did friendly visits, wrote letters, and helped with recreation. He also volunteered with the Alzheimer's Association to which he made phone calls and mailings to raise money for the cause. Tom later became employed at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in the activities department for 10 years from 2002 thru September 2012. Tom met the love of his life, Donna Schott, in 1970. The couple was married on August 7, 1971, in the Methodist Church in Eureka, SD; and was married for 42 years, which have been spent living in Lincoln. Tom enjoyed his garden, plants, boating and camping with family, and anything outdoors. He especially loved every moment he had with his three grand boys, whether it be playing with them, reading to them, or just sitting and watching a cartoon. Tom is survived by his wife, Donna, Lincoln; his two sons, Michael and Courtney; his daughter-in-law, Heather Jansen Brown; his grandsons, Kaden Letvin 12, Preston 4 and Brennen Brown 18 mo.; cousins; his father-in-law, Richard Schott; and brother-in-law, Marvin Schott. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his mother-in-law, Irene Schott.
