Tillie Meyer

Tillie Matilda Emma Meyer, 90, Bismarck, died February 3, 2010, at 3:15 a.m. at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Monday at Church of St. Mary with Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dickinson. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2010, at Eastgate Funeral Service and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Tillie was born November 11, 1919, Regent, ND, the daughter of Phillip and Rose Boespflug Jahner. Tillie was raised and educated north of Taylor. She enjoyed working as a seamstress, timekeeper, and foreman for a sewing room in Killdeer. She married Ralph Meyer on January 30, 1940, in Richardton, ND. Tillie and Ralph moved to a farm in Oliver County north of New Salem in 1945. They moved to Bismarck in 1964. During Tillie’s years on the farm, she was president of the Oliver County 4-H Club for five years. Of all the places Tillie lived in her lifetime, that farm was her favorite. She loved the freedom of country life: walking through the trees, picking and canning various fruits and making jelly and syrup, planting and watching her garden grow which produced more canning projects, raised chickens, and bringing in fresh laundered bedding and clothes from the clotheslines. She enjoyed embroidering various items like dishtowels and table runners. In the early years, she also sewed clothes for herself and family In Bismarck, Tillie took pride in her work at the Holiday Inn, St. Alexius Hospital, and UND Family Practice, which she retired from due to health. Tillie enjoyed sharing her creative and scrumptious baked goodies with family and friends. She didn’t arrive anywhere without cookies, bars, or a pie or two. She took cake decorating classes and baked specialty cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and town jubilees. Her other hobbies included reading, music, dancing, and playing games like Bunco or Blew It. Being with family during holidays and birthdays were a great joy for Tillie. She looked forward to family and friends visits and telephone calls. Over the years, Tillie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and Eagles Club. Tillie is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Lil Ray Geiger, El Mirage, AZ; Lynette Graf Noel Boyko, Bismarck, ND; Lennis Terry Geiger, Edgewood, WA; one daughter-in-law: Clementine Meyer Rohrich, Bismarck, ND; nine grandchildren: Darin Susan Geiger, Tracie Darin Moilanen, David Graf, Andrew Graf, Sean Amy Geiger, Lonnie Katie Meyer, Darcie fiancé Darin Gaberial Meyer, Lennie Meyer, Lance Kristi Meyer; nine great-grandchildren: Meaghan Geiger, Kimberly Moilanen, Emily Geiger, Jackson Geiger, Ashley Meyer, Brock Meyer, Shaylee Meyer, Carsen Meyer, Brennan Fetch, and one on the way; one brother: Ralph Fritzie Jahner; and sister-in-law: Judy Jahner. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Norman, son-in-law Roger Graf, brother Raymond Jahner, sister Ann McChesney, step-brother Vincent Jahner, step-sister Rose Scheetz, and former husband Ralph Meyer.
