Todd Thompson

Todd C. Thompson, 50, formerly of Bismarck, went to be with the Lord on October 10th, 2009. He passed away at North Memorial Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Center, MN after a brief battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday at Bismarck Baptist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Merle Hoots officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Todd was born in Harvey, ND on June 30th, 1959, son of Arlene Ron Volk and Larry Rose Thompson. He graduated from Bismarck High School on May 25th, 1977. Todd was very active in sports for the Bismarck High Demons, lettering in football, basketball and track. He also played legion baseball. After high school, he attended Moorhead State on a football scholarship and then entered the US army. After his discharge from the Army, he lived in Florida for a brief period of time before moving to the Minneapolis area. He was employed with Midwest Rubber Service and Supply at the time of his death. Todd enjoyed hunting, fishing and in recent years really became interested in golf. His goal of course, was to be better than his brothers!! Todd was selfless, humble, honest, kind and had the highest degree of integrity. He cared greatly for people and always put others first. We will always admire and remember Todd for the special love he had for his family and friends, and the goodness he saw in everyone he met. Todd is survived by his parents, Arlene and Ron Volk, and Larry and Rose Thompson, Bismarck, his brothers, Tracy Sue Thompson and Larry Jr. Jill Thompson, Minneapolis, Tab LeighAnn Thompson, Bismarck; his step-brothers, John and Scott Volk, Fargo, his step-sister, Marianne Brady Mahon, Anchorage, Alaska; Burns Jennifer Bailey and Bruce Laurie Bailey, Moffit, ND and Kristi Richter, Tacoma, Wash. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and step-grandmother, Margaret Volk. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jake and Irene Gienger and Lloyd and Lillian Thompson; his step-grandfather, Pete Volk; his great-grandparents; and aunts and uncles. The family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society.
