Veronica Henley

Veronica Henley, 83, Tappen, was born in Logan County, on June 2, 1926, and passed away peacefully to our loving Lord on February 15, 2010, at the Napoleon Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Tappen, with Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Burial will be held at the Fisher Cemetery, Tappen. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil will be at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Veronica was the daughter of Anton C. and Dorothea Haegele Wald of Napoleon. She attended Glendale Township School and grew up 10 ½ miles NE of Napoleon; she also attended Sister of St. Francis in Hankinson, ND. Veronica married Dennis Henley on November 8, 1950, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Napoleon. While living in Tappen for two years, Veronica worked at the Philip Lipp Café. In April 1952, Dennis and Veronica purchased a farm eight miles NE of Medina. In 1961, they moved to the Henley family farm in Tappen. Veronica’s life was very full, belonging to the St. Paul’s Altar Society, being a 4-H Leader, CCD teacher, attending PTA meeting, and preparing the altar for mass. Veronica enjoyed and loved her children, grandchildren and all family gatherings and dances. She will be remembered for her homemade bread, angel food cakes, pies, cookies and bars. She patiently sewed, knitted, crocheted, and embroidered. She was a caretaker of others, organized, efficient and feisty. Veronica is survived by her five children, Mary Jane Henley Craig Dewald, Mylo/Streeter, Linda Jack Reuer, Walden, CO, Donald Henley, Tappen, Michael Charlene Henley, Lincoln, and Debora Allan Stanek, Bismarck; ten grandchildren, Lee Penny Briese, Edgeley, Bill Briese, CO, Justin Dewald, Streeter, Craig Reuer, Craig, CO, Amanda Reuer, Craig, Co, Sara Henley, Bismarck, Brian Samantha Henley, Mandan, Kevin Henley, Lincoln, Kimberly Stanek Tom Simmer, Fuquay Varina, NC, Sabrina Stanek Oguzhan Ozdemir Atlanta, GA; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Rosemary Wald, Napoleon, and Jim Conrad Patricia Wald, Deerbrook, WI; four sisters, Barbara Schmaltz, Bismarck, Mary Fettig, Napoleon, Idora Leo Schmidt, Hazelton, and Cyrella John Engelhart, Hazelton/Zeeland. Veronica was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; her parents; two brothers, Louis Wald and Joe Wald; three brothers-in-law, Andy Wrangler, Adam Schmaltz, and Frank Fettig; and one sister-in-law, Johanna Wald.
