Viola Moltzen

Viola Moltzen, 80, New Salem, went home to be with her Lord on January 16, 2004, at the Elm Crest Manor with family members at her side. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM CT at Peace Church in New Salem with the Rev. Joshua Eddy officiating. Burial will be at the Peace Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 PM - 9 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and Sunday from 2 PM - 9 PM at Peace Church in New Salem where a prayer service will be held at 7 PM. Viola was born on January 23, 1923, at Fredonia, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Hermina Netz Fregien. She was raised and educated in Fredonia and Kulm, North Dakota, graduating from Kulm High School in 1940. She graduated from Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck with a major in accounting and was employed at the Mandan Cloverdale Creamery until the time of her marriage. On October 19, 1947, Viola was united in marriage to Alvin Moltzen at Kulm. After their marriage they resided in New Salem. Vi had served her role in volunteer work by serving as a charter member and secretary of Morton County Library Board, a member of the Morton County Library Board, a member of the Morton County Red Cross Board, a member of the Regional Mental Health Board, and a council member of the Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped. She was also a staff member of the North Dakota Heart Association and District Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. As a professional fundraiser, she had placed first per capita in the nation several times. Vi was awarded the International Peace Gardener Award by Honorable Governor Link. Vi was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving on the local, state, and national levels. She served as National ALA President in 1977 - 1978, traveling to forty-eight states and nine foreign countries. She was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary Elkettes, Hi-Lo Bridge Club, Women's Guild, and Peace Church. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She cherished the time she spent with her family and enjoyed attending her grandsons' special events. She will be sadly missed by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Dave Schlenvogt of Fargo, North Dakota, and Sherry and Terrance Doll of New Salem; three grandsons, Terry Doll and his wife, Amber of Mandan, Tom Doll of New Salem, and Matthew Schlenvogt of Fargo; one brother-in-law, Gottlieb Hartman of Kulm; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, LaVerne and Gilbert Holle of Bismarck, and Daniel and Donna Moltzen of Plymouth, Minnesota; and loving nieces and nephews. Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Moltzen; her parents; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Delores Hartman and Alice and Lee Hollan.
