Walter Quashnick

Walter Quashnick Sr., 78, Bismarck, died November 27, 2014, in Rochester, MN. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 4, at Legacy United Methodist Church, 4600 Durango Dr., Bismarck, with Rev. Ernie Hockett and Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm Wednesday, December 3, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Walter was born July 4, 1936, in Ashley, ND, the son of Jakob and Martha Schneider Quashnick. He obtained his journeyman plumbing license in 1964 and his master plumbing license in 1985. Walter served with the 82nd Airborne Army and was a paratrooper. Walter married Darlene P. Jans on October 18, 1958, at Martin, ND, and from that union, Walter Jr. and Sherrie were born. Walter worked at Bauer Plumbing in Harvey. In 1966, the Quashnick's moved to Bismarck and raised their family, where Walter worked for H.A. Thompson. Walter and Darlene opened Walt's Plumbing and Heating in 1985, and together they ran the business; Darlene answering the phones and Walter going on the jobs. Darlene passed away on December 28, 1996. Walter had a heart of gold and was very involved with his business. He was a sincere man and was concerned for his children. He loved playing pinochle, ND Poker, and a marble game taught by a friend. He enjoyed going to the casino anywhere he traveled. He had a great love for fishing, hunting, sporting clays, and Bingo with friends. Walter was a member of the UA Local 300, VFW, Eagles, and Legacy United Methodist Church. Walter is survived by his daughter, Sherrie Quashnick, Bismarck; his son, Walter Jr. Quashnick, significant other, Christian Eck, Bismarck; his sister, Marge Larry Bohnen, AZ; his sisters-in-law, Leona Jans, Denhoff, ND, Betty Johnson and Delores Schlender, both of ID; and his girlfriend, Thelma Wall, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his parents; grandparents; brother, Julius and Terry; sister, Esther Muhle and infant sister, Jean Quashnick; and brothers-in-law, Ted Jans, Edwin Jans, and Reinhold Jans.
