Wayne Vietz

Wayne Vietz, 75, Bismarck, died May 9, 2008, at his home with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bismarck with Pastor Wayne Easley, Pastor Darrel Lindensmith, and Pastor Ed Gienger officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at 2:00 PM at ND Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Wayne Paul Vietz was born on March 10, 1933, to Fred and Hilda Schmitke Vietz on a farm south of Denhoff, North Dakota. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Denhoff. He lived in West Fargo for one year where he was employed with the West Fargo Elevator. On October 28, 1953, he was drafted into the Army at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and completed his basic training at Camp Picket, Virginia. He was then sent overseas to Japan for eighteen months where he served with the 1st Calvary 7th Division as a medic in the Heavy Motor Company. He was honorably discharged on October 13, 1955, at Ft. Ord, California. In October of 1956, Wayne moved to the George Thom farm south of Denhoff where he was in need of a soul mate. He married Wilma Fueller of Turtle Lake on April 13, 1957. They farmed and ranched until 2003. Wayne loved his animals, especially his cows, and took good care of them with lots of pride. Wayne's hobbies and life were raising cattle and farming and he lived his life based on "Do it right the first time, then you won't have to do it again" and "Always finish what you start". In 2005, they moved to Bismarck due to Wayne's ill health. Wayne and Wilma attended the Goodrich and Bismarck Seventh Day Adventist Churches. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wilma of Bismarck they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2007 in McClusky; his son, Jeffrey Vietz of Bismarck; his granddaughter, Jordan Vietz of Lexington, South Carolina; his sisters, Della Frank Hellman of Underwood, North Dakota, Loretta Halverson of Modesto, California, and Viola Wally Schultz of Sawyer, North Dakota; and a very special friend, Thom Pederson of Westby, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hilda Vietz; his sister, Myrtle Boe; and his brothers, Clarence Vietz and James Vietz. He will be missed by many who knew him and will be remembered for his smile and his sense of humor.
